Our frequently asked questions are just that, and we hope they answer a few of your queries to help you move forward with your plans.
What does National Steel Detailing specialise in?
National Steel Detailing specialises in producing steel workshop drawings and shop drawings used by steel fabricators and manufacturers in New South Wales and beyond.
What are shop drawings?
Shop drawings are highly detailed construction and fabrication drawings which provide details of various components to aid in the construction process. The drawings inform on specific details such as a component’s material, shape, size and assembly to show exactly how it will be installed.
What kind of shop drawings does National Steel Detailing specialise in?
Our work to date has been particularly varied and includes structural steel components, electrical infrastructure, HVAC ductwork, millwork, MEP drawings and storefront layouts. That said, we are able to assist in a wide variety of shop drawings to meet your needs whether they be component fabrications or prefabrications.
What’s the difference between shop drawings and construction drawings?
Shop drawings tend to be more detailed than construction drawings and includes dimensions and installation instructions. Shop drawings are smaller in scale than traditional construction drawings, and due to the nature of the prefabrication or fabrication components, they rarely need to be amended throughout the build process.
Can National Steel Detailing edit existing shop drawings?
While most of the work that hits our inbox is created from scratch, National Steel Detailing can also work on editing and amending existing shop drawings. We are only too happy to work with CAD files from another source as well as physical shop drawings which we can recreate to meet your aims and goals. Mail them, drop them off or email them to us depending on your preference and format of original drawings.
Can I design shop drawings myself?
While it is possible to create your own shop drawings, we believe this is one task that is best left to the professionals. As there may be a number of professionals in the building industry that may need to refer to the drawings, it is recommended that all original shop drawings are clearly legible and meet current design specifications and building standards. If you are short for time, we recommend you reach out to us in the first instance to see if we can meet your deadline. Poorly created shop drawings can only serve to hold up your building project, wasting time and building resources.
What kind of details are included in a set of shop drawings?
Shop drawings are very specific and show not only dimensions but tolerances and instructions on assembly as well. Shop drawings serve to make the prefabrication or fabrication component as clear as possible and may include multiple components on each page.
What kind of views will be featured in a shop drawing?
Shop drawings are unique in the sense that they can show multiple views that aren’t visible in a single drawing. Shop drawings may also be produced as orthographic projections, individual section views to show the interior of a component or three-dimensional drawings, otherwise known as axonometric views. We are only too happy to discuss your project to work out the best view or views to showcase the dimensions, scale, tolerances and assembly instructions in the best possible light.
