Who Needs Shop Drawings?
Construction professionals rely on the accurate and timely completion of steel detailing drawings. At National Steel Detailing we like to work as closely as possible with all of our suppliers, fabricators, contractors and engineers in developing meticulous and detailed shop drawings. It is our job to ensure that all the necessary information is included in the construction documents so as not to slow the process down in any way. Once approved, then the build project can move on to the fabrication stage quickly and seamlessly
Suppliers
Suppliers are just one of many construction professionals who use shop drawings to work out the exact material specifications deemed necessary for a building project. The drawings will indicate precisely the number and type of materials required and will help determine the cost and time needed to complete the project. While suppliers may have a general idea of the demands of the construction in their mind, it is the shop drawings which solidify the facts and give them a solid guide to progress with.
Contractors and Subcontractors
We deal with many contractors and subcontractors who require our shop drawings to serve as an inventory list and communication tool amongst other contractors and subcontractors, as well as architects and engineers. As the shop drawings provide more detail than other construction documents they may have available, it gives them a detailed perspective of the work that needs to be done and acts as an overall project guide.
Fabricators and Manufacturers
Fabricators and manufacturers are concerned specifically about detail. They require the exact specifications of a shop or fabrication drawing so that they can meet the needs of their clients. Without accurate and comprehensive drawings, particular items or issues may be overlooked by the fabricator causing the project to be delayed.
Architects and Engineers
Architects and engineers rely on information – information that is provided by the builders, contractors, steel detailers and each other. To support all of the information that is being passed from one department to another, architects and engineers also utilise shop drawings to back up their design and analyse the overall building structure. Steel drawings will also expedite the feasibility study and subsequent approval of the entire construction project.
